What We Believe

The Vision

That Shelbyville will be filled with followers of Jesus.

The Mission

To lead one another to Love God, Love People, & be on Mission Together.

The Purpose

To help people love God through worship and teaching from the Bible, to love people through community groups and service, and to make disciples by proclaiming the gospel and entrusting them with what we have been taught so they can also teach others.

Our Beliefs

What we believe about God is central to who we are. God has revealed himself to us through his Word, so the Bible is our ultimate authority for what we believe and what we practice.

Core Values

We value learning about God

We can’t love someone well if we don’t know them. (John 15:10)

We value prayer

God is our Father and hears our prayers in Jesus’ name (John 14:14). God delights in prayers of faith and gives us prayer to be a part of His mission (Prov. 15:9, Romans 12:12, James 5:15)

We value hospitality

Jesus says he is going to prepare a place for us. We show love for God and people by inviting others into our homes and lives (Romans 12:13, Hebrews 13:2, 1 Peter 4:9, 3 John 1:8)

We value worship

God is the Creator of the universe and our ultimate authority, yet He has shown us great grace and mercy! He deserves to be worshiped by each individual for his beauty and saving us from our sins. Also, when we worship God together, we encourage one another in the faith. (Psalm 73:25; Acts 2:46; Colossians 3:16)

We value integrated faith

At the beginning of human creation, God created people to spend time with Him and to work (Genesis 1:26). We see all aspects of life coming from God and do not separate our faith from work, family, or recreation. We want to glorify God in everything we do. (1 Corinthians 6:13)

We value God’s mission for us

Jesus tells his followers “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

This is a command for all Christians and best accomplished together. We dedicate ourselves to training the next generation of disciple makers. (Mark 6:7, 2 Timothy 2:2)
